If you use it for just a few db of gain reduction in ”relaxed” mode it will work in a much more transparent way. You will have less saturation when the ”relaxed” mode is enabled. The saturation is stronger with higher gain reduction. The DC1A can add a nice saturation effect to the audio. This way you will not be fooled by differences in loudness between the unprocessed and the processed audio. Use the output knob to match the compressed level to the uncompressed. It has a fixed threshold and the more you gain the input the more compression you will get. Its attack and release timings are program dependant although you have the choice between a faster response (which is the default mode) and a slower response with the ”relaxed” mode engaged. The DC1A is resembling an OPTO compressor.

You have full control over attack, release, ratio and threshold and you can target either the audio peaks or the average loudness (RMS) of the incoming signal – or set up the MCompressor to target the audio signal somewhere in between these two. It has a good graphic user interface (GUI) that gives you good visual feedback about what you are doing both in terms of how you are compressing (soft knee, linear, or hard knee) and how much gain reduction you are employing. MCompressor is a very nice and very versatile vst compressor plugin. MCompressor by Melda Production (Windows and Mac) Nasty VCS by Variety of Sound (channelstrip with opto style compressor) (Windows) Thrillseeker VBL by Variety of Sound (Vari-Mu compressor – this is primarily a saturation tool but it also has a simple compressor that works very well on bass) (Windows) LA Thrillseeker by Variety of Sound (Windows)ĭensity mkiii by Variety of Sound (high quality buss and mastering compressor) (Windows) You can read more about bit bridging in our article About Bit Bridging In Klangheim Studio we use Cubase in combination with jBridge and that works like a charm without any hickups. I gotta admit – I kinda like the simpler controls, especially the three way timing switch. It’s combining very natural, dense compression characteristics of the early days of this type of compression with a more forward sounding approach and more harmonics creating of the variable-mu comps of the early 1960s.” is a mix of Mk1 and Mk2 of its big brother MJUC.
“The three-position timing switch not only controls the attack and release times of the unit, but also the slew rate of the transformers and the timing of the other parts of the circuitry, that are directly influencing the generated harmonics (saturation).” With its two gain stages and interstage transformer simulation it offers a very deep and lively soundstage.” capable of smooth leveling but also heavy pumping effects. “It’s a variable-mu** design with lots of vibe. The MJUC Jr is a feature-limited – but still freakin’ awesome – little brother to the MJUC.
For only 24€ it’s a steal.Įqually awesome is the fact that they’ve also released a stripped-down free version which is also the balls. Three different models are included, it’s highly tweakable and it sounds amazing. The clever cookies at Klangheim do some amazing stuff – saturation, compression namely – and the MJUC compressor is no exception.
